Florida K9 killed after gunman opens fire near mall

Appointees are researching a Christmas Eve shooting almost a South Florida shopping center that murdered a gallant K9 officer named Cigo.

The pooch was credited with sparing the life of the agents, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw of the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said at a news gathering Monday evening.

"He carried out his responsibility, giving his life to spare and ensure our own," Bradshaw said.

The sheriff's office said The Mall at Wellington Green in Palm Beach County was secured as representatives examined the shooting.
